Animals are intuitive. There’s no denying it. Cats, dogs, parakeets, flying squirrels… all of them. Well, maybe the one exception is fish. I used to have a ten-gallon aquarium with a half dozen tetras. They were about as psychic as a frying pan. Not much going on between the ears, if you catch my drift. But I digress.
Fish aside, I’m guessing many of you have a cat or a dog (or did at some point in your life.) Like humans, they’re born with an innate ability to sense things. Vibrations. Energy. Changes in the mood of the household. And they certainly know when we’re sick.
When Covid hit me hard last month, my two cats were glued to my side for much of the illness. I found their constant purring soothing. Perhaps this isn’t surprising. After all, substantial research claims that a cat’s purring falls within a frequency known to reduce stress in humans. The purring is also within a range that’s known to release endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkiller. Dogs may not possess this ability, but their cuddles and loyal support help achieve the same end result.
The bottom line is that our pets can sense when we feel under the weather. They can also intuit when we’re angry, sad, or worried. Back when my sweet dog Zico was still alive, we had a nearly telepathic connection. He watched countless soccer games with me on the couch. Sometimes, when my team would get scored on during an important game, I would internally cringe. But I knew how sensitive Zico was to my every movement, so I always refrained from sighing, huffing in frustration, moving too quickly, or shouting at the TV. And still, although I wouldn’t react at all, he would stand up and stare at me with a concerned look on his face… as if he could sense an invisible shift in my energy. At first, I thought it was a fluke. Over time, this was so consistent it defied chance and was beyond a coincidence.
Ultimately, soccer is just a game. I don’t think Zico cared who scored or which team won any of those matches. Pets have more important things to worry about. Take Oscar the cat, for example. In 2005, he was the resident therapy cat at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Oscar had a knack for sensing which residents were nearing the end. In the hours leading up to a person’s death, Oscar would set up camp in that person’s room, offering affection and companionship. Time after time, those residents passed away with Oscar by their side. This happened no less than twenty-five times, eliminating skeptic’s claims that it was merely a coincidence. The story was covered in the New England Journal of Medicine.
How is this possible? And why are animals so intuitive? I’ve learned a few things while conversing with spirit guides all these years. They insist that everything is made up of energy. All living things have a soul. Like anything else, souls are on a spectrum. Animals rank pretty high on the totem poll because they are highly evolved beings. Yes, they sometimes drink from the toilet and lick themselves for hours on end. But our furry family members are capable of unconditional love. Some humans aren’t even capable of loving without conditions. Pets are pure beings who possess loyalty, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
It’s this emotion that causes animals to be so incredibly psychic. Unlike humans, they do not overanalyze situations or waste the day rationalizing their decisions. They don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. They simply live in the moment. For them, everything is based on feelings and instincts. When humans manage to live this way, we get out of our own heads and tap into our hearts. That’s where we find intuition. That’s where our psychic senses reside. It’s no coincidence that people who are highly intuitive possess a very deep well of emotions.
I couldn’t possibly wrap up this article without addressing the one thing you’re probably wondering right now. YES, animals can indeed sense the presence of ghosts and spirits. Dogs, for example, have special lenses in their eyes, allowing them to see a spectrum that humans can’t detect. This includes ultraviolet light. Simply put, they see the world differently than we do. Combine this superpower with raw intuition, and it’s really not surprising they can detect the presence of spirit visitors. When the veil between worlds gets a little thin, dogs start acting a little funny… like walking into another room and staring at the corner as if they’re tracking something. It can be a little unnerving if you’re the skittish type. But please keep in mind that most spirit visitors are friendly in nature. Even if your pup is growling or its hair is standing on end, it’s not necessarily a sign that you have a malicious presence in your house. After all, dogs have a natural instinct to protect their humans. If a spirit visitor suddenly appears from nowhere, a dog might be on edge… even if the spirit means no harm.
As for cats, well, truth be told, most cats are neurotic. It’s just how they’re wired. Psychic? Yes. But admittedly, they’re a little odd as well. If your cat darts off without warning, it may just have a case of the zoomies and wants to burn some pent-up energy. If it begins staring at something in the room that you can’t see, it might just be hunting a fly that came into the house.
As for the family fish… if they seem to have a far-off look in their eyes, they likely aren’t thinking anything at all. They might not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but at least they’re pretty to look at. And that’s enough.
Give your fur babies a scratch behind the ears for me. In the near future, I’ll post an article sharing some stories about animals visiting their families from the spirit world.
