Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.
I’ve seen this saying on rearview mirror decorations, and I suppose it’s fitting. After all, car-related problems and angels go hand in hand. When we’re out on the open road, anything can happen. Each day around the world, people experience unforeseen troubles while driving. Flat tires. Fender benders. Traffic jams. Close calls. Dead batteries. You name it.
These unexpected happenings can set the stage for angelic intervention. When the wind blows just right, bad luck can turn into good fortune. Misfortune gives way to miracles. I know this because I’ve received angelic assistance on many occasions regarding vehicles, and I’ll share a few of them in this article. I’d love to hear your angel-related stories as well. Please email me or leave your story in the comment box below.

Many years ago, my car’s dashboard glowed with a maintenance light I did not recognize. The vehicle had felt a little odd while driving, so I planned on taking it to the mechanic first thing on Monday morning. I needed something from the store Sunday evening, but knew I shouldn’t drive. I pressed my luck anyway and convinced myself that my car would be fine since it was a short trip.
I heard a clicking noise inside my vehicle just before backing out of my garage. I looked down and noticed someone (or something) had just engaged the parking brake near the stick shift. I found it odd since I had just disengaged it. I shrugged it off and disengaged it yet again. Seconds later, as my eyes were still focused on the parking brake, I saw it move on its own… seemingly under control by an invisible presence. It clicked into place, preventing my car from reversing out of the garage. Goose bumps formed on my arms, and I looked around the car interior, suddenly feeling like I wasn’t quite alone.
After a moment of contemplation, stubbornness won out, and I was still determined to leave. Just as I shifted into reverse, the garage door closed, preventing me from backing out. At this point, I threw my hands in the air and chuckled. Clearly, someone didn’t want me leaving the house. Was something horribly wrong with my car? Was it not safe to drive?
My answer came Monday morning after I dropped it at the mechanic’s shop. They called me a couple of hours later, explaining that my brakes were in such bad shape, it was a miracle I hadn’t already caused an accident. I told the lady on the phone about the strange happenings from the night before. We concluded that someone must have been looking out for me. New brakes might be expensive, but angelic protection is priceless.

Another incident happened when I was attempting to merge onto the interstate. I was using a long and winding on-ramp. Just when I was ready to speed up, my car had other ideas and began to slow down. I momentarily wondered if my car had slipped out of gear, but quickly realized that was not the case.
It felt like an unseen force was pushing the brakes on my behalf. Suddenly, the steering wheel had a mind of its own. In a slow and controlled fashion, my car pulled itself onto the shoulder, straightened itself out, and came to a complete stop. During the maneuver, I was so shocked that I had completely let go of the steering wheel and took my foot off the brake. My car had been driving itself!
My heart pounded and adrenaline surged, but I was unsure what to do. All the maintenance lights were glowing on my dashboard, yet the car was silent as if it had died. Vehicles whizzed by me on the onramp as I sat there collecting my thoughts. After a few moments, I turned the key and the car started up as if nothing was wrong. Before long, I was on my way and safely merged onto the interstate.
It’s been many years since this happened, and I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on it. My intuition tells me I was saved from an accident that wasn’t part of my soul’s destiny that night. I try not to imagine what might have happened if I had merged at the wrong time. Would an eighteen-wheeler have been in my blind spot? Would a drunk driver have run me off the road? Thankfully, I’ll never know. I’m just happy my angels know how to drive a stick shift.
I could go on and on. I could tell you about the time I spun off an icy interstate near Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, just as the town mayor was driving by. (She picked me up and made me hot cocoa at her house until my car was pulled from the snowbank.)
I could tell you about the time I got a flat tire and pulled into the nearest parking lot, only to realize the stall next to me was occupied by a tow truck. The driver was friendly and seemed like he’d been there waiting for me to arrive. He used an air compressor to inflate my tire and refused payment when I offered him some cash. Once at the tire shop, they patched it for free, and the whole ordeal lasted twenty minutes from start to finish. It was the most convenient flat tire imaginable.
Angels are everywhere. Some are invisible and wear badges labeled Spirit Guide or Guardian Angel. Others are disguised as humans and arrive in our lives when we need them most. In reality, you may have played the role of honorary angel for someone when they needed assistance. In a world of eight billion souls, we all must do our part when needed.
Few things happen by chance. There is order among the chaos of life. When the gears of reality slow down just enough, we can glimpse inside to see how it’s all put together. In those little spaces and rare moments, miracles reside… a little reminder that angels are real, and there’s more to our reality than meets the eye.
If you’re in the Omaha area, I hope to see you at my special event - An Angel for Every Occasion on May 30th.
Wishing you health and happiness,

Thanks for passing that along to me, Haley. I agree, someone must have been looking out for you. Some refer to that as the "burnt toast theory" - look it up. In any case, I'm glad your safe. And moving forward, I'm sure you'll have much better luck with tires :)
About 50 years ago I was a teenager with my first drivers license. My parents trusted me with letting me take the car out on Friday and Saturday nights to see friends. I lived in a rural area with a lot of mountain back roads created for the logging trucks to get into the deep woods. One day I had a friend with me traveling behind a logging truck with a full load of logs sticking out from the back. They are supposed to tack a red cloth to the end of the longest log which is crucial to the safety of cars directly behind them. This one truck I was following did not have a red cloth and when it came to a stop I didn't notice that one log was sticking out quite a bit longer than all the others. It all blends together. …Without a doubt… I believe my guardian angel picked up my right leg from the gas pedal and put it on the brake pedal. I realized what happened immediately so I pressed down the brake pedal to stop. I was in amazement when I saw one skinny log not more than one inch from the windshield directly infront of my friends face! She surely would have been decapitated if I hadn't stopped. So much gratitude for my angels and guides. 😇👣
