It’s that time again. I’ve asked the nice folks on social media to leave a question. I’ve grabbed a handful of them, which I’ll address in this article. I love these Q and A sessions for two reasons. It’s a great way to connect with followers on a personal level. And it gives me a chance to address phenomena that often get overlooked.

Sonja Redding said that when her daughter was younger, she said interesting things - such as having memories of being an old lady in China (past life memory, no doubt.) But her daughter also spoke of “light purpose” and “dark purpose” Sonja wanted to know if I’ve ever heard of those terms before.

Admittedly, I have not, Sonja. But it’s possible that by “light purpose,” your daughter may have been referencing life purposes, otherwise known as soul goals. Each lifetime, we sign up for a handful of categories to experience for the sake of soul growth. It could be anything, really. Leadership, creativity, forgiveness, empathy, teaching, motivating, going the extra mile, getting outside our comfort zone, or trusting our intuition. Once here, it’s the job of our spirit guides to ensure we get chances to work on the objectives we signed up for.

By “dark purpose,” Sonja’s daughter may have been referring to the times we inadvertently set others up to work on their soul goals. For instance, if you’ve ever wronged someone or disappointed your spouse in a relationship, you gave them a chance to work on forgiveness. If you’ve ever committed a crime (no matter how big or small), you gave the police officer a chance to protect and serve the community (one of his or her soul goals). If you’ve ever experienced depression and sought counseling services, then your “darkness” gave the counselor a chance to help and heal. Within the chaos of life, there is a balance that often gets overlooked. The light and dark, the up and down, the good and the bad… it’s all necessary to keep this merry-go-round of our human experience spinning in circles. But man, it sure is exhausting sometimes, isn’t it?

Cheri Gottschall asked, “When you see signs like finding a feather, how do you know which of your departed loved ones is sending it to you?”

First of all, trust your intuition. If a particular loved one pops into your head at that moment, you’ve likely pinpointed who sent the feather. If you don’t sense anything intuitively, I would suggest designating a feather to correlate with a specific loved one. That way, if you find more in the future, you’ll know who is sending them. In fact, you can designate different signs for different departed loved ones. They’ll surely get the message and will be willing to play along with your little game.

Speaking of feathers, a client once told me the most amazing story. Long ago, she walked into her bedroom and saw an angel standing in the corner of the room. She gasped in disbelief before swiveling around to turn on the lights. When she looked back at the corner of the room, the angel had disappeared. On the floor in that corner, she spotted a single white feather, which she presumed came from the angel’s wings. The story gave me goosebumps. But my scientific side wishes she would take the feather to a lab and run it through a DNA machine. I would love to see the look on a biologist’s face when they cannot match the DNA to any known species of bird.

Gerri Swanson said she bought her sister’s house and had tons of paranormal activity, including hearing voices and having things fly across the room. Her sister didn’t experience anything while living there. How can this be?

Well, Gerri, it’s because people are more haunted than places. If you’re the kind of person prone to paranormal activity, you’ll likely experience strange happenings whether you live in a 100-year-old farmhouse or a brand-new condo that’s never been in before. Some people are magnets for spirit activity. Others are not. Intuition certainly plays a part in this. People with a heightened sixth sense will be prone to more unexplained happenings. And those who are skeptical will experience little to no strange happenings (because they’re not interested in the first place.)

Lori Diggins asked if I’ve ever sensed a negative entity attached to a client while I was giving a psychic reading.

No, I haven’t, Lori. Anytime I’ve sensed a spiritual presence around a client, it’s been positive, such as a spirit guide or a departed loved one. That said, I have met a handful of clients who seemed to emit a darkness from within them… almost as if their soul had malicious intent. Thank goodness those cases are few and far between. It’s only happened maybe four or five times in the fifteen years I’ve been giving psychic readings.

I had to stop a session once because the situation was so uncomfortable for me. The young lady I spoke with almost seemed alien… like she had no soul whatsoever. She had no questions. She couldn’t explain why she came to see me. She didn’t know what she was hoping to gain from the experience. And she offered no feedback when I spoke to her. She merely stared at me with a blank expression. Behind her eyes, there didn’t appear to be any humanness, if that makes sense. I did not sense a darkness around her, per se. But I could not read her because her energy was foreign and unlike anything I’d sensed before. Needless to say, I saged the heck out of my office that day.

Kathy Hilgenkamp Roum asked if people can ever reincarnate as animals. She joked that her dog must have been a very needy man in a former life.

Anything is possible, Kathy. I haven’t seen much evidence of humans reincarnating as animals, and the spirit guides have never told me whether or not it’s possible. But I’m holding out hope because I want to be a spoiled housecat in my next life. My bed would reside in a bay window overlooking a forested area, and I would watch the rain trickle down the window pane as I drift in and out of sleep. And during the holidays, I’ll set up camp under the Christmas tree near the presents. I’ll be wearing a funny sweater that says something like Merry Grinchmas. Ahhhh, that will be the life.

As for your dog, Kathy, I’m guessing he’s the type who needs to be the center of attention at all times. I imagine he demands attention the second you stop petting him… and likely wedges his head under your palm, asking for more. But I know firsthand it’s hard to be productive with a needy pet. As I type these words, I have a cat perched on my chest, and I can hardly see the computer screen. So pleeas forgiv me if I makke anyy typos .
