Before we get to the good stuff, just a quick reminder that I’ll be at the Sioux Falls Holistic Expo tomorrow, selling signed copies of my book and giving a lecture on past lives.

Then on Sunday, I’m a featured speaker at Mystic Fest in Council Bluffs, Iowa. If you’re in the area, stop by booth #42 and enter for a chance to win a $222 prize giveaway. I’ll be there from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, and I’m delivering a talk at 3:00.

What you’re about to read is some old poetry I wrote more than twenty years ago. I’ve never publicly shared this writing, and only a few people have ever read it. I used to write poetry just for kicks, and then I’d take a dozen of them and create little spiral-bound books. I’d actually forgotten about them until finding them in a closet bin yesterday. One of the books is called Crazy Words in a Crazy World. When I wrote these, I doubt I could fathom just how crazy the world would be in 2024. But if you’ve recently lost someone, I hope this first poem lifts your spirits. It’s an untitled piece I wrote after my uncle died in 2004.

When we lose someone we love, it's hard to comprehend

That it's just another chapter, not the story's end

We don't know why they're gone & we may not know the reason

Yet our lives keep moving forward with the changing of the seasons

We use our hugs and smiles to fight off all the tears

Remembering the good times that have happened in past years

Times like this remind us just how lucky we are

To breathe fresh air, take a walk, or just look at the stars

We move through life together and lose some members on the way

Which reminds us all to cherish each and every single day

Every family member lost becomes a drop inside the sea

We miss them when they're gone, but now they're finally free

They are not gone completely, though; just take a look around

They're in the blue sky up above or in that flower on the ground

They are everywhere that beauty exists, it's not that hard to see...

So when you miss them, close your eyes, and next to you is where they'll be

Feel free to share this with anyone who is grieving a loss.

And now, as a palate cleanser, here is a much more light-hearted one.

Just Another Poem That Rhymes.

I always write these poems that rhyme
I’ve written them far too many times
I want to change and try something new
So write a poem that doesn’t rhyme is what I’m going to do

Give me a minute to clear my mind
Let me get ready and try to unwind
I think I’m ready, so here I go
But this poem will not rhyme, I hope you know

Wait a minute now, what should I write?
Should I write something crazy and out of sight?
This poem will not rhyme, yet that’s what I said
But I cannot get these rhymes out of my head

I think I know just what to do, now
Since I want to stop rhyming but don’t know how
What I need to do is use a big word
Something outrageous that you’ve never heard

But making big words rhyme is too hard to do
Maybe someone can do it, but I’m not sure who
I can’t believe it, I did it again
Someday I’ll stop this, but I don’t know when

Okay now, I’ll give it one more try
But if these next lines rhyme, I think I might cry
Okay, well, I’m not sure what to say
Besides thank you for reading and have a nice day

Counterclockwise

Time is in disarray
No time for work, no time for play
Day is night and night is day

Fast forward through time, end up in the past
Slow down time, it goes too fast

Set your watch
Set your clock
Set your alarm
Tick, tick, tock

Two hours left, five minutes to go
Don’t look at the time, it moves too slow
Time is not real; it’s a state of mind
But it’s hard to find the time to unwind

The clock turns back from ten to nine
The past and present are intertwined
